Was bedeuten offene Grenzen?

It´s okay to be political!

Usually we let others speak on our blog. And mostly it is less political. But on Sunday 26. 05. 2019 European elections are coming. That’s why I’d like say a word as a German-Dutch European and head of communications of Tagwerk.

Many of you will probably  think, now Tagwerk has to say something about the European elections too. Schuster, stick to your last. Yes, but it is important to me and the Tagwerk team.

As a child and teenager I had the privilege of growing up very European. In a small, but very diverse European society in Holland. There I visited the European School. After graduating from high school, I studied in Brussels for a few years and worked there as a student for the European Community, among other things. A great experience! Europe was and is a matter of course for me, but by no means self-evident. As a child I actually took it that way, diversity was normal. Meanwhile I appreciate it and am very grateful to have grown up with so many nations, languages and cultures.

No one should stay at home

Europe guarantees us security, prosperity and legal certainty. There has been no war on our continent for 70 years. No one before us has ever done that! It is one of the safest and most stable of all continents. We women in particular have the greatest opportunities here to develop our potential, to study, to make a career and to live in freedom! People in Europe can take to the streets and express their opinions. #Press freedom #Italy! Europe has dismantled borders between Europeans and created a unique common market. For the greater good, Member States accept restrictions such as sovereignty and freedom of action. This is contrary to some, especially „new“ Europeans, who have just emerged from foreign domination. But it is necessary. „We must decide whether we want to preserve the freedom and peace that the European Union has brought to the continent,“ says Roger Weber in an interview with SZ. He was mayor of Schengen for ten years and fights for the European idea and against border controls. The Schengen Agreement of 14 June 1985 was primarily intended to promote the creation of a single European market and abolish stationary border controls at Europe’s internal borders.

What do open borders mean?

Above all, it means mobility and freedom to travel! Many of our day workers are mobile and actively on the move and therefore free travel is important for them. Or to put it another way: Do we really want to return to Mallorca with a visa? We in Germany all love the Mediterranean cuisine and want to enjoy it at home. So not only eat pasta in Italy, even if it probably tastes better there. And what about mobile phone use. The principle of „Roam like at home“ guarantees us since 2017 only to pay as much for roaming as we would have to pay in our home country for the same use. And of course the euro. Many people scold or condemn it, but in the end it brings us many advantages. It has not only made it easier to pay. These are just a few examples of many we take for granted in the EU today. We live in a mobile world where we have never been so close. What we need is not only an economically active European Union, but also a social and political one. For better and peaceful coexistence. Europe is a first step along this road. And we can contribute to this by going to the European elections on Sunday. We all have a responsibility to bring Europe and the people together to live in peace. Peace is a great good. Better still:
